General Species Description: Reproduction Comments:Clutch size is 6-14 (usually 8-10). Incubation, by female, lasts 25-29 days (Terres 1980). Young are tended by female, can fly about 49 days after hatching. Ecology Comments:Usually widely dispersed in winter, but concentrations of several thousand not uncommon (Terres 1980). Usually in flocks (Stiles and Skutch 1989). In Maine, daily survival rate of duckling was reduced in low-pH wetlands (Mcauley and Longcore, 1988, J. Wildl. Manage. 52:169-176).
