General Species Description: Reproduction Comments: Single egg is laid in May-June (rarely late April) in Hawaii. Mean incubation period of five eggs was 45 days; mean nestling period of four young was 62 days (Whittow 1994). Young fledge mid-August to October (Berger 1981). Ecology Comments: Rats may prey on adults, crabs may prey on young (Berger 1981).
